Research indicates that family acceptance is strongly associated with improved mental health outcomes among LGBTQ youth, including lower rates of depression, substance use, and suicide attempts. Where possible, we emphasize directionality and magnitude rather than anecdote, and we reference primary studies that quantify these associations.
